 J. B. McQuown came to Arizona from Ohio in 1926 and was the 16th veterinarian in the state. He had been raised on a farm in Ohio and graduated from Ohio State University in 1919.  This was the first class at OSU to graduate with the new four year curriculum.  His college studies were interrupted by WWI where he served in the Medical Corps.

Dr. McQuown began a large animal practice in Ohio and his memoirs are included in this book to give the reader some idea of practice life in the early 1900s.  He contracted TB and, as many others of that day,  came to Arizona for health reasons.  He arrived in the fall of 1926 and was the 16th veterinarian in the state.  After a strong recovery he practiced in Prescott and then Globe when the 1929 Depression forced a move to Tucson.  He was in large and small animal practice and regulatory work.

At one time he was the oldest veterinarian in the state and during that long life was instrumental in establishing the Arizona Veterinary Medical Association.
